This intensive five-day course enables students to create a series of highly experimental drawings, and to use these drawings to produce an individual handmade artist’s book. We will investigate a number of approaches to drawing including drawing from observation, memory and imagination. One day will be spent on location at a local museum or landmark. We will explore a variety of materials and drawing tools, and students will be introduced to simple bookbinding techniques. The course is suitable for both beginners and more advanced students who wish to engage in a week of intensive tutor led drawing in a supportive environment.
This approach to drawing can be highly beneficial to many disciplines including fine art, jewellery making, illustration and graphic design. Students will come away with a number of drawings and a handmade book. The body of work can also serve as an additional project for BA or Foundation course application portfolios. Please be aware that the main focus of this course is drawing so it is not suitable for students looking for advanced bookbinding techniques.
